My search for divine wisdom and guidance predates many of your lifetimes and I’m fairly sure I’ve picked up a few things along the way. Now it’s time to share what I’ve learned.
There is meaning behind calling myself the Christian Boomer; In my lifetime I have seen modernism at its height and then as postmodernism took hold. On the other side of the theological spectrum was the rise of the charismatic movement which began in California as an outgrowth of mixing Christianity, Pentecostalism, New ageism and the hippie movement. Among the conservative groups came the Bible wars which still rage today.
I was born in 1959 and born again in 1964. In 1975, I entered paid ministry as a Summer Missionary with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Since that summer, I have been in and out of ministry as a vocation and avocation. I have served the Lord ministering to every age group from kindergarten through senior citizens.
What I believe
I will not waste and space outlining what should be obvious already; I am an orthodox old-fashioned Bible believing Baptist with an evangelistic emphasis. I am not charismatic and I am not an evangelical. If you ask whether I am Arminian or a Calvinist, my reply is both and neither. I choose to start with the Bible and let it lead me to my doctrinal positions. I am aware that none of the Bible writers spoke English and I don’t know Greek or Hebrew, which is why I have an extensive library of lexicons, commentaries and Bible dictionaries. I do want to mention that while I am KJV preferred I have switched to the NKJV. This removes at least one obstacle from those who claim the KJV is too hard to understand.
What am I called to do?
I feel called to declare God’s Word through written and spoken word, digitally and in person. Not verse by verse but by sections of each book of the Bible following the natural divisions. My emphasis is the written word through books and blogs, but with podcasting and vlogging thrown in as well. If churches would like a special speaker for a single service or multi service Bible conference, I am also available.
How?
Romans 10:14–15 (NKJV)
14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:
“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
1 Corinthians 9:13–14 (NKJV)
13 Do you not know that those who minister the holy things eat of the things of the temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of the offerings of the altar? 14 Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.
Philippians 4:15–16 (NKJV)
15 Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only. 16 For even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my necessities.
God’s work should be supported by God’s people and where he sends, he will provide. My vision is to find enough monthly supporters so that I can pursue this ministry full-time. I am taking the same approach as a missionary trying to reach a foreign field. If I was a full-time pastor, I would be preparing three messages a week plus a Sunday School lesson. That is my goal and where I believe the Lord is leading. If God is in this endeavor, then I am praying that he will over time lead five hundred people to support this ministry at $10.00 a month.
As support comes in it will allow me to dedicate myself to full-time prayer, Bible Study and lesson production of podcasts, vlogs and blogs. There is one more burden that I have. Why should only large churches be able to have special speakers and Bible conferences? According to Lifeway research 70% of churches in the United States have congregations of less than 100. Rural churches have it even harder because of their isolation. They can’t afford to bring in speakers, but the Lord still cares about them and so do I. Enough support would allow me to go to these congregations without charge.
